Gerard Bakker was appointed to the board of the Fair Trade Authority Curaçao effective April 1, 2017. In addition to this position, he has been Chief Director of the Custodial Institutions Agency of the Ministry of Justice and Security since July 1, 2018. Prior to this, he was Chairman of the Board of the Central Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) in the Netherlands. From 2007 to 2014, he held various positions at the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (formerly the Netherlands Competition Authority). These positions included Director of Competition Supervision at the Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) and Director of Competition at the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). Gerard Bakker has extensive knowledge of competition supervision, including the investigation of cartels and corporate dominance. Before his time at the NMa and the ACM, he led various enforcement processes at Customs and the Fiscal and Economic Investigation Service (FIOD-ECD) in the Netherlands. This provides Gerard Bakker with valuable enforcement experience. Gerard Bakker is a tax specialist and received his PhD from Ghent University in 2014 for his research on innovations in the enforcement chain aimed at curbing financial and economic crime.
